SA Photonics Completes 2015-2016 Navy SBIR/STTR Transition Program With “Best of the Best” Honors

Press Release

SA Photonics Completes 2015-2016 Navy SBIR/STTR Transition Program With “Best of the Best” Honors

May 26, 2016

LOS GATOS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SA Photonics received the honor of “Best of the Best” while attending the sixteenth annual Navy Forum for SBIR/STTR Transition, held in National Harbor, MD on May 16-18. The 2016 event marked the eighth consecutive year of attendance for the company. SA Photonics was invited to participate in this event marking the successful completion of the Navy SBIR/STTR Transition Program (STP), an annual investment program in small businesses who have successfully completed Navy SBIR or STTR Phase II contracts. Of the 97 small businesses taking part this year, SA Photonics was honored with the inaugural “Best of the Best” distinction from STP organizers.

SA Photonics introduced two new products at this event. The SkyLight™ CubeSat payload delivers high speed satellite laser communications. Skylight™ significantly enhances global communications, operating in low earth, geosynchronous or intermediate orbits, with an affordable, robust and reliable optical system that is relatively unaffected by weather. The second product, SA Photonics’ Optical RF Memory (ORFM), provides significantly enhanced abilities to thwart military threats. ORFM is designed to replace digital radio frequency memory, delivering capability against new and emerging wideband and ultra-wideband systems, thereby increasing current and future defense system effectiveness.

SA Photonics demonstrated its SA-92/S augmented reality product for customers to experience firsthand advanced training and display systems. This optical see-through head/helmet mounted display (HMD) provides very high resolution and wide field imagery with a 92° instantaneous field of view. SA Photonics also demonstrated a new HMD that mounts to eyewear and interfaces directly to an Android phone. Additionally, Forum attendees were able to explore SA Photonics’ SA-62 virtual reality HMD with an immersive Apache helicopter training exercise.
